To Someone at Deutsche Bank is a kind of anti-love-letter by Ana Gzirishvili. The film was created in 2017 as a poetic response to the artist’s experience with an office worker at the Deutsche Bank in Berlin, whilst organizing bank papers for her visa application. Very much affected by the discrimination against her, she kept returning to the same office in an attempt to make her “relationship” with this employee ok. Every meeting would end in the same way: leaving the bank with the feeling of tears. The residue of this experience, and the frustrating repetition of discrimination through bureaucracy, finds its own voice in this video work. A song written to this man at Deutsche Bank. This melodramatic, satirical video piece came from a truly dramatic state. Through emotional lyrics, the video confronts a system usually coded very “unemotionally”, exposing its psychological layer, and digesting the trauma of it.
